Day 39 - Self Compassion
Life inevitably brings moments of difficulty and pain. In these times, the “Self-Compassion Break" (Kristin Neff) is an invaluable tool. It's a quick, three-step practice that grounds you in kindness. First, acknowledge your pain ("This is a moment of suffering"). Second, connect to common humanity ("Suffering is a part of life for everyone"). Third, offer yourself kindness ("May I be kind to myself in this moment"). This simple practice can transform moments of overwhelm into opportunities for self-nurturing.There are times—especially when I feel like I've failed or messed up—that my instinct is to isolate and criticize. The truth is, life inevitably brings moments of difficulty and pain for everyone.
Remembering that shared human experience is where the healing begins.
That's why I rely on the simple, three-step Self-Compassion Break. It’s not about ignoring challenges; it’s about acknowledging your struggle.
I realized that offering myself the same grace I’d instantly offer a friend is not selfish, it’s essential. This simple practice can instantly transform moments of overwhelm into opportunities for self-nurturing.
Word of the Day
"The Lord is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made." - Psalm 145:9 (ESV)
If God has compassion on all He has made, including you, how can you extend that same compassion to yourself? When you are suffering, remember you are part of all that God created and has compassion for.
